Regional dental surgeon:

  1. Supervision, Management & Administration of all Hospital Dental Clinics & School Dental Clinics in his region.
  2. Be Responsible for Supply of Drugs, Equipment, Material to all Dental Clinics in his Region.
  3. Co-ordinate with Bio Medical Engineering Service Regarding the Maintenance & Repair of Equipment.
  4. Should be represented on the Transfer Board of School Dental Therapist & Recommended Transfers According to Available Cadres.
  5. Be Consulted in Matters Related to New Appointments, Promotions Disciplinary Matters of Supervising School Dental Therapist & School Dental Therapists.
  6. Should be Responsible for Initiating the Process of Condemning Un serviceable Equipment & Instruments. He should be the Chairman of the Board of Condemning.
  7. Advice, Support & Supervise all Oral Health Program. Such as Out Reach & Clinical Prevention in his Division.
  8. Be Responsible for District Oral Health Plans & Represent the Oral Health Services in all Planning Matters at Provincial Level.
  9. He Should Collect Compile & Analysis Statistics & Relevant Data pertaining to the Dental Services in his Division & also Provide a Feedback. He Should Forward Quarterly Statistical Reports to the DDS.
  10. Maintain Intersect oral Co-ordination with Relevant Government Organizations such as Education, Building, Engineering, Irrigation, Electricity, Water Supply, and Social Services & Non-Governmental Organizations such as Parent Teacher Associations etc.
  11. Take Measures to Prevent Unqualified & Under Qualified Personal from Malpractices & He Should Maintain Information on such Activities.
  12. Maintain Staff Discipline of Staff working under him & Keep RDHS informed of acts of indiscipline.
  13. Shall Recommend & Advice on Matters Relating to Increments & Extensions of all Dental Personal in the Region to the PDHS.
  14. Recommend & Advice the RDHS ON THE Opening of New Dental Clinics & Maintenance of existing clinics.
  15. Organize In-Service Training Program & Workshops for all Dental Staff in the Region.
  16. Be Responsible for the Identification of Dental Public Health Problems, Carry out Epidemiological Surveys & Health Systems Research in the Division.
  17. Give Expert Advice on all Dental Matters in the Region.  
  1. Develop A Comprehensive Oral Health Care Plan for The MOH Division in Collaboration with PHC Staff, SDT, MOH & RDS.
  2. Ensure Implementation of Policy Guidelines on Oral Health Promotion, Prevention of Oral Diseases & Provision of Basic Care to The Identified Groups.
  3. Provide Comprehensive Oral Health Care to The Identified Priority Groups, Priority Groups Include Children Below 3 Years, School Children Over 13 Years of Age, Pregnant Mothers & People with Special Health Care Needs.
  4. Provide Oral Health Care to The Patients Referred by School Dental Therapists & Other Health Personals.
  5. Provide Preventive / Curative Care on Demand to the Population.
  6. Develop A Comprehensive Oral Health Plan for The Area Covering Health Education & Promotion, Screening, and Provision of Care & Follow Up in Collaboration with PHC Staff, SDT & MOH of The Area.
  7. Perform Oral Promotional Activities in The Community.
  8. Perform Interventional Activities with Regard to Prevention & Provision of Therapeutic Care for The Identified Priority Groups.
  9. Screen & Provide Comprehensive Oral Health Care to Target Group School Children (Gr – 10 Students in The MOH Area) On an Annual Basis with The Concurrence of The MOH & RDS.
  10. Screen & Provide Necessary Oral Health Care to All Pregnant Mothers Referred by MOH / PHM.
  11. Provide Comprehensive Oral Health Care to Children Below 3 Years Referred by The MOH / SDT / PHM / PHI.
  12. Practice Clinical Prevention Such as Application of Fluoride & Fissure Sealants on High-Risk Groups after Proper Identification.
  13. Conduct Outreach Program for Priority Groups on A Pre-Planned Basis with The Concurrence of The MOH & RDS. Activities of The Outreach Program Include, Behaviour Change Communication Activities, Screening, and Referral & Provision of Basic Care.
  14. Attend to any Person Seeking Oral Health Care on a Casual Basis.
  15. All Procedures that can’t be Carried out in the ADC/ CDC should be Referred to the nearest government Hospital where facilities are available.
  16. Issuing Medical Certificates in the Field of Dentistry wherever Necessary According to the Rules Laid down on the issue of Medical Certificate.
  17. 100% Coverage of Target Group Children in the Base School if the Dental Clinic is Located in a School. (Oral Health Education, Screening & Provision of Comprehensive Care)
    50% OF Target Population Coverage with an Annual Increment of 5%.

Supervising School Dental Therapist:

  • Plan and organize the school dental services in her area.
  •  Will provide guidance and supervise the School Dental Therapist.
  •  Will monitor the performance and evaluate the work of the School Dental Therapist in her area.
  •  Will participate in in-service and on the job training.
  •  Will provide any other services required to maintain the efficient delivery of the School Dental Services.
  •  In identifying deficiencies in planned services based on the information available.
  •  In monitoring the implementation of planned services, identifying and deviations and suggest necessary corrections.
  •  In the planning and establishment of new clinics and the improvements to existing clinics.
  •  Maintaining cordial relations with school authorities.
  •  Developing and organizing he health education activities in her area in consultation with the RDS and other relevant staff of the RDHS Office.
  • Identifying, organizing and implementing in-service training programs to SDTs.
  • In addition, the Supervising School Dental Therapist will guide and supervise the work of SDT both administratively and clinically.
  • Will discuss problems / deficiencies in the work of the SDT and help them to overcome them.
  • Ensure that necessary supplies / materials for carrying out the work are made available to the SDT.
  • Will make supervisory visits to clinics at least once a month.
  • Will guide the SDT in recording / reporting of information on work performance.
  • Will ensure that reports are submitted in time and the reliability of date through spot checks.
  • Will appraise work performance of SDT in consultation with the RDS and help improve performance.
  • Submit relevant reports on inspections of clinics and submit 06 monthly appraisals of SDT to RDHS through the RDS to estimate the quality.
